The following is the letter given to all parents at the parent’s meeting on May 6th.

PARENT’S MEETING, May 6th, 7:00-8:00 pm.

We would like to welcome back any returning parents and welcome all new parents.  Congratulations to all your children.  They all did a great job at tryouts.   We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding 2008 Cheerleading Season.

We are going to use the Website again this year as our main way to communicate with parents.  The site is www.badgerscheer.com.  The site will be updated with any new information as it becomes available.  We will post practice cancellations, scheduling changes for games, etc.  We have collected all the email addresses with the registration forms.  If you don’t receive emails or didn’t fill in the email address on the form, please see one of the advisors or board members so we can add you to the email address list.

Also, listed on the site are the Rules and Regulations that were given out at tryouts and have been posted on the site.

APPAREL ORDERS AND GAME UNIFORMS - At this point everything has been ordered.  The pick up is scheduled for June 10th for Cheer squads and June 12th for Pep squads.  We will use the same times as we did for the order night.  We will post the information on the website shortly.  Please note that the wind suits will not be in until end of August.

Game Uniforms have already been fitted and will be given out before the first game.  Please remember that the uniforms are for the games only and should not be used for anything else.  For example, they should not be worn by anyone for Halloween.  The uniforms should also never be washed by anyone.  If they get really dirty, please see a board member.  Girls can wear their wind suits to school on the Friday before each game.

PRACTICES - Mandatory practices will begin the first week in August.  Cheer will practice on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning Tuesday August 5th.  Pep will practice on Wednesday and Thursday beginning Wednesday August 6th.  Practice will be held from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at Legion Field until school begins.  Once school starts the practices will be earlier and the times will be announced by each squad.

In August, September and October, when it is nice out, the girls will practice outside.  We have gym time reserved at the Williams Middle School once school starts.   This is only in case of inclement weather.  If practice is in the gym, please remember water only and white soled sneakers are allowed.

We expect that no one takes vacation once the mandatory practices start in August.  This was communicated prior to the tryouts on the website and on the information sheet given out with the tryout permission slip.  If you know of plans to miss more than three practices, please contact your team’s advisor and/or a board member immediately.  If you have any questions regarding unexcused absences, please see the rules and regulations on website.  In order to get ready for competition, please note that this year there will be no unexcused absences allowed on cheer squads after October 20th.

Again this year we are requiring girls to come to practice in the practice uniforms (red cheer shorts with the practice t-shirt or tank tops that they have purchased), hair pulled back and no jewelry.  On cooler days, the girls should come in their wind suits.  Any cheer apparel purchased at the tent can also be worn.  Please do not have the girls wear their cheer sneakers to the practices as they should be worn to games only.

Again this year we will be having camp and it will be run by the UCA (same organization as last year).  Cheer squads will attend camp August 18-20th and Pep will attend camp August 21st-22nd.  There will be no night practices that week, only the day camps.  The camp is tentatively scheduled for 9-3.  The girls will work on building skills, stunts, jumps and new cheers.  There will be a cost associated with this and we will fundraise to cover half the cost and the parent’s will need to cover the other half.  As soon as the total cost is known we will pass on the information and post on the website.  Please see fundraising section below.

GAME SCHEDULE - A game schedule and directions to the away games will be posted on our website as soon as available.  In addition, the schedule will be printed in the football handbook that is given out at home games at the beginning of the season.  It is important to remember that the schedule is subject to change at any time during the season.  The girls are expected to be at all games even if there is a change in the schedule.  Last year games were changed numerous times due to inclement weather and EEE. Please plan accordingly during the season.

FUNDRAISING - We only do a few fundraising activities and ask for everyone’s participation.  All proceeds from the fundraising events go towards the buying and cleaning of the uniforms, ½ of camp cost, opening day festivities, end of season pizza party, competition, trophies and the awards ceremony.  This year we will be doing the following fundraising activities:

Car Wash – We are going to have a car wash at 85 Plymouth Street on Saturday, June 7th (raindate will be the following Saturday).  The plan is to have all the mites and Pee Wee Pep work the car wash 10-12 and then PeeWee Cheer and all the Midgets cover the 12-2 shift.  We hope to sell hotdogs and water for the waiting parents.  We would also like to ask the girls to bring a plate of homemade cookies or brownies or whatever to try to sell.  More information will be posted on the website soon.

Basket Raffle – Each squad puts together a basket based on a theme decided by the squad.  We then ask each cheerleader to sell $20 worth of tickets.  At the last home game for each squad, the basket is raffled off during half-time.

Dances – Each year we sponsor dances for the 5th and 6th grade students and 7th and 8th grade students at the Middle School.  We ask that one parent from each family chaperone one dance.  We have tentatively scheduled dances for September 5th (All Mite Parents are responsible to chaperone), September 19th (All Pep Parents are responsible to chaperone), October 17th (all Midget Parents are responsible to chaperone) and October 24th (any parent who was unable to chaperone their assigned date).  Advisors will have the sign up sheet once the season starts.

Apparel – A tent is set up at every home game and we are asking each parent to man the tent for one game during the season.  We will have sign up sheets at the practices this summer.  You can do any game you like; it doesn’t have to be one that your daughter is cheering at.  We really count on the tent to raise funds for the organization.

COMPETITION - Competition is scheduled for November 15, 2007 for the cheer squads.  More information will come from the advisors as the season progresses and updated on the website.

COMMUNICATION WITH ADVISORS AND BOARD MEMBERS - We are asking all parents cooperation in not contacting coaches and to speak only to the advisors or a board member if you have any questions or concerns.  The coaches are there to help the girls and not handle any other issues or parents concerns. You can contact advisors or board members by phone.  In addition on the website, under the Contact Us page, you can send an email to us and someone from the board will get back to you.

Any questions?????

Thank you for coming tonight.  We appreciate all the parent support.
