Frequently Asked Questions
Who has to tryout and why are tryouts necessary? All girls must tryout to make a squad. We understand that tryouts CAN be stressful for both children and parents. Cheerleading is a team sport and the numbers on each squad is limited, so we have found that tryouts are the fairest way to choose squads. Judges are HIRED from outside the Badgers Cheerleading Organization.
What should my child wear on the day of tryouts? A t-shirt, gym shorts (no zipper or pockets) and WHITE SOLE SNEAKERS ONLY should be worn and NO jewelry or fake hairpieces. All are encouraged to wear the team colors (red, white, blue) but it is not mandatory. Children are NOT allowed to wear ANY cheerleading apparel or items that reference cheering (including fake hairpieces). If they do, they will NOT be allowed to tryout.
Do I need to sign a permission slip for my child to tryout? YES. Permission slips will be available at the tryouts or you can download a form from the website. Please plan to drop your daughter off the first day and complete the form at that time or bring the completed form with you. NO ONE will be able to tryout without a permission slip.
How do I know if my child makes a team? Each child will be given a number at tryouts to be used by the judges. The squads will be listed by name and assigned numbers at the Williams Middle School and on the Badgers NEW Cheerleading Website (www.badgerscheer.com) on Friday, April 18th no earlier than 4:00 p.m.
Are there Cheerleading Rules and Regulations? YES. Rules and Regulations or on the back side of this sheet, available on the website and will also be available at the tryouts. Please review carefully because they have changed from prior years and they will be strictly adhered to. If you feel your family can not abide by the Rules and Regulations, including the vacation policy, please think carefully about having your daughter tryout for the 2008 season.
If my child makes a squad, what is next? If your child makes a squad, the cost for registration and cheerleading attire (practice shirt, sneakers, bodysuit, wind suit, socks, pom-poms etc) is usually about $275, which includes a $25 town fee to use the field. Fittings are scheduled for April 29th and May 1 (additional information will be given out at tryouts) and a parents meeting will be scheduled in May to go over any and all questions.
When do mandatory practices begin/end? Mandatory practices begin the week of August 5th and continue through the 2nd week of November depending on playoffs and competition. Initial practices for Cheer squads will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Pep will be Wednesday and Thursday. Camp will be held during the week of August 18th (3 full days for Cheer squads, 2 full day for Pep squads) Attendance at camp is mandatory.
How can I become an advisor? Fill out the form attached to the tryout permission slip and pass in with daughters permission slip. After tryouts, the board will contact those advisors chosen for the Fall 2008 season.
