FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TRYOUTS AND SEASON

Who has to tryout and why are tryouts necessary? All girls must tryout to make a squad. We understand that tryouts CAN be stressful for both children and parents. Cheerleading is a team sport and the number on each squad is limited, so we have found that tryouts are the fairest way to choose squads.

Who judges the tryouts? Judges are HIRED from outside the Badgers Cheerleading Organization.

Is it mandatory to attend all tryout practices and what do they learn at the practices? It is not mandatory to attend all tryout practices, but children will have a much better chance at making a squad if all are attended. Each squad will be taught a cheer and dance.

What do the girls do at tryouts? All girls will do the cheer and dance taught at the practices, certain jumps and limited gymnastics depending on the level trying out for.

Where are the tryouts held? All practices and tryouts will be held at the Bridgewater Middle School Gym

How many squads are chosen? Two squads (Cheer and Pep) will be chosen for MITES, PEEWEES and MIDGETS.   Mites are girls entering grades 3 & 4 in fall 2010. PeeWees are girls entering grades 5 & 6 in fall 2010. Midgets are girls entering grades 7 & 8 in fall 2010.

How many girls are chosen for each squad? The squads are usually 23-26 girls depending on the number trying out.

Which squads will cheer for which football teams? The Cheer Squads will cheer for Division 1 Badger Football Games and compete November 13th in Boston. The Pep Squads will cheer for Division 5 Badger Football Games and will not compete.

When are the games during the season? Game times and locations are determined by the football league and ARE subject to change throughout the season and attendance is required at all games. Games for both divisions are either Saturday night or Sunday.

What should my child wear on the day of tryouts? A t-shirt, gym shorts (no zipper or pockets) and sneakers should be worn and NO jewelry. All are encouraged to wear the team colors (red, white, blue) but it is not mandatory. Children are NOT allowed to wear ANY cheerleading apparel (including hair pieces) or items that reference cheering. If they do, they will NOT be allowed to tryout.

Do I need to register to tryout? YES.  You must go to the HOME tab, and select register on-line.  This is required for everyone who is trying out.  If you are a returning cheerleader, you must register for the 2010 tryouts.  THERE WILL BE NO PAPER PERMISSION SLIPS.

How do I know if my child makes a team? Each child will be given a number at tryouts. The squads will be listed by names and assigned numbers at the Bridgewater Middle School and on the Badgers Cheerleading Website (www.badgerscheer.com) on Friday, April 16th after 4:00.

Are there Cheerleading Rules and Regulations? YES. Please review carefully as they will be strictly adhered to. If you feel your family can not abide by the Rules and Regulations posted on the website, including the vacation policy, please think carefully about having your daughter tryout for the 2010 season. Cheer squads will have mandatory practices at Cheernastics on Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day and any professional days when the school is closed in mid October through November 14th. Dates will be determined once the school calendar for 2010-2011 is available and dates will be posted on the cheer site.

If my child makes a squad, what is next? If your child makes a squad, the cost for registration ($100-$140) and cheerleading attire for first time cheerleaders (practice shirt, sneakers, bodysuit, wind suit, socks, pom-poms etc) is usually about $200. Fittings will be April 27th for Cheer and April 29th for Pep from 3:30 pm - 6:30 (3:30 Midgets, 4:30 PeeWees, 5:30 Mites). Further information will be given out at tryouts and posted on the website.

When do mandatory practices begin/end? Mandatory practices begin for Mites and first time cheerleaders (for sideline practice)  the week of August 9th and for PeeWees and Midgets the week of August 16th and continue until November 13 (Competition/SuperBowl). Initial practices for Cheer squads will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and Pep will be Wednesday and Thursday. Dates for full day practices during the summer will be posted on the website once dates have been confirmed.

How can I become an advisor? During the registration for tryouts, please answer the supplemenatl questions and we will have your information.  Once squads are selected, we will notify the advisors usually within a few weeks after tryouts.

Will there be mascots for the fall 2010 season? There will not be mascots for the 2010 season.
